Wine, windmills and castles.
Wine, windmills and castles… La Mancha is the homeland of Don Quixote and the largest wine region in the whole world.
The literature nobel prize winner Octavio Paz wrote of this region: “La Mancha is a land that is very far from the montains, very far from the sea, but very close to the sky”. Almost half the production of wine in Spain takes place in La Mancha. And it is for a reason.
We will also taste the spectacular and famous manchego cheese accompanied by a good wine.
Departure from Madrid in the morning. The drive will take you through the flatlands of La Mancha planted with olive trees and vineyards.
Visit two wineries with wine tasting, and the windmills that Don Quixote fought thinking they were giants.
If we have time we will visit one of the 47 medieval castles from this region. Traditional lunch with wine and local food. Return to Madrid in the afternoon.
Some of the most interesting villages that we could visit are: Consuegra, where you will feel like stepping out of a novel, visiting the Knights of Calatrava Castle, Campo de Criptana, another town famous for its wine and its windmills.
